Shimano Metanium Model # MET101HG

X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By
supporting the pinion gear on both ends with
bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment
with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in
the same position under the heaviest loads. The
added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft
and gear are eliminated. This will enhance the
casting performance of the reel with lighter lures, and
allow for longer casts.
Platinum Service Plan

Escape Hatch

By flipping a switch, the sideplate
swivels downward, giving the angler
quick access to adjust the VBS
weights. The switch is located in a
position that is easy to use, yet
remains out of the way to prevent
accidental opening. The sideplate is
smooth for comfort when palming the
Super Free (SF)

The Super Free bearing-supported pinion gear
system (SF) was designed to eliminate friction on the
spool shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting
reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion
gear is freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft,
creating friction and limiting the length of the cast.
With SF, the pinion gear is supported by a ball
bearing, and when the clutch is disengaged the pinion
gear and spool shaft are kept in precise alignment.
The result is zero friction on the spool shaft for
increased freespool.
Super Stopper II

Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a
one-way bearing that eliminates
backplay.This provides the angler
with instant hooksetting power. In
some reels, the Super Stopper II can
be turned off to allow backreeling for
special techniques and situations.
S A-RB Bearings

These bearings have been through
the same process as our A-RB
bearings, but feature shields on both
sides of the bearings that reduce the
possibility of salt or sand inhibiting
the bearing's rotation.
Micro Module Gear

The Micro Module Gear System
creates a smooth retrieve. The new
gear set makes use of smaller teeth
and more of them. This means that
there are more contact points
between the drive gear and pinion
gear. The result is a more efficient
gear train with less gear feel.
SVS Infinity Brake System

Shimano's newest innovation in brake system
technology, SVS Infinity provides easy-to-manage,
consistent spool control and brake force. With brake
weights that use inner friction against the raceway
during the cast, SVS Infinity controls spool speed for
precision casting especially when using lighter lures.
The external adjustment knob provides for quick,
precise adjustments for either the conditions or when
you switch baits.

Designed with the tournament bass angler and avid
fisherman in mind, the Shimano Metanium Casting
Reel delivers versatile, lightweight performance for a
wide range of freshwater applications. Its ergonomic
Magnesium frame keeps it at just 6oz (6.2oz for XG
model) and Shimano’s Micro Module Gear System, X-
Ship gear construction and SVS Infinity Cast Control
System combine to deliver ultra smooth functioning,
incredible torque, and greatly improved casting

Offering impossibly smooth retrieves and increased
efficiency, Shimano’s advanced Micro Module Gear
System utilizes smaller teeth and more of them on each
gear. This provides more contact points between the
drive gear and pinion gear, and combined with the
Metanium’s X-Ship gear construction helps the gears
maintain proper alignment and better handling,
especially under heavy loads.
Shimano’s newest innovation in brake system
technology - SVS Infinity - also enhances casting
accuracy and increases casting distance, especially
when using lighter lures. The external adjustment knob
is also in a more convenient position (bottom, left side
of reel) for easier one-handed operation. Available in
three gear ratios, including a blazing fast 8.5:1 gear
ratio, whether you like to flip, throw jerkbaits or drag
worms, there is a Shimano Metanium Casting Reel
perfect for the task.
Whenever tackle giant Shimano has a new product
ready for debut, the anticipation surrounding the
release is incredible. So, imagine the build up when it
was announced that the erstwhile Metanium XT, the
anchor in Shimano's baitcasting lineup, was up for a
total redesign and engineering. Add to this buzz, the
unprecedented release of the United States market
version, Chronarch B, prior to the debut of the new
Metanium XT, and Shimano Japan must have sent
scores of their very own dedicated consumers into a
tailspin. It's been a good year now since all the
anticipation has come and passed, and it's time to
share our thoughts on the new Metanium XT from
The Metanium® Baitcast reel from Shimano® is super-
lightweight, incredibly powerful, and smoother than
butter on hot glass. Built for the hardcore tournament
angler (or any fisherman who wants perfection!), The
Metanium uses a combination of magnesium, carbon,
and aluminum to put performance and power in your
hands. The Micro Module gearing system utilizes a
larger number of smaller, finer cogs, precisely machined
to provide a buttery smoothness that almost seems
organic rather than mechanical—combined with
Shimano's proven X-Ship system, it's the smoothest,
most stable baitcaster ever. With a magnesium frame
and handle-side plate, a carbon onside plate and
hardened aluminum drive gear, weight is driven down to
only 6.0 ounces (6.2 oz. for XG model). The Escape
Hatch release allows you to access the interior of the
sideplate for cleaning and adjustments. The cast is
managed perfectly by the SVS Infinity braking system,
with the adjustment dial located on the front bottom of
the reel's left sideplate for easier one handed
adjustment while engaged in battle. Other benefits
include 9 S A-RB bearings plus a roller bearing,
Dartanium 2 drag washers, a tapered line guide, Super
Stopper® anti-reverse, and an MET XG handle with PV
power grips.
