Super Free (SF)

The Super Free bearing-supported pinion gear system
(SF) was designed to eliminate friction on the spool
shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting reels,
when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is
freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft, creating
friction and limiting the length of the cast. With SF, the
pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing, and when
the clutch is disengaged the pinion gear and spool
shaft are kept in precise alignment. The result is zero
friction on the spool shaft for increased freespool.
Lo-Mass Drilled Spool System

Lo-Mass Drilled Spool System is designed for anglers
who require longer casts and can sacrifice line
capacity to do so. The Lo-Mass spool features a large
arbor that is cross-drilled to reduce its weight. By
moving the arbor of the spool outward, the mass of the
spool is closer to the rim of the spool. Like a
lightweight bicycle wheel, where most of the mass lies
in the tire, the majority of a Lo-Mass spool lies in the
arbor and the line it is spooled with.
High Effeciency Gearing (HEG)

HEG consists of not only the gears, but also the frame,
setplate, and handle-side sideplate. First we increased
the size of the drive gear and the pinion gear to offer
increased leverage and power. By using a one-piece
frame that incorporates the setplate and adding a
one-piece stamped sideplate, we have eliminated flex
in the drivetrain that causes normal gears to bind
under pressure. By eliminating the flex and increasing
the leverage, we are able to provide high-speed
retrieves and deliver an incredible amount of torque,
while maintaining the smooth, silent retrieve Shimano
reels are famous for.
Metal Series

The metal construction showcased in some of our
finest reels now appears throughout our line of Metal
Series products. Metal frames not only keep moving
parts in precise alignment, they also feature the use
of the latest anodizing, plating and painting
techniques for beautiful and durable finishes.

A-RB

A-RB bearings are stainless steel ball bearings that
have been through the A-RB treatment process which
makes them at least 10 times more corrosion resistant
than standard stainless steel ball bearings.

•A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) are made of Stainless
Steel that has been through the A-RB process.
• At least 10 times more corrosion resistant than
standard Stainless Steel ball bearings.
• Easy Maintenance-no shield design allows for easy
flushing of debris and easy lubrication.
•Increased Bearing Speed-no shield design and
lighter viscosity lubrication reduce friction and allow
the bearing to spin faster and longer.
Digital Control

The waterproof Digital Control system is
self-energizing: It recharges with each cast
and needs no battery or power source.
During the initial moments of the cast, the
energy generated by the rotation of the
spool is stored in the Digital Control circuit
board and powers the Digital Braking
system on subsequent casts.

The pre-programmed braking patterns
allow the spool to achieve maximum RPMs
before engaging the brake, whereas
traditional systems begin braking
immediately and do not allow the spool to
continue accelerating throughout the
casting motion. Reels with conventional
(magnetic or centrifugal) braking systems
operate efficiently between 15,000 and
20,000 RPM. With the Digital Braking
technology spool rotation can exceed
30,000 RPM (a 50 to 70 percent increase)
and still maintain excellent line control for
longer, more accurate casts.

The pre-programmed braking pattern can
be easily adjusted externally across eight
different levels of intensity. It also provides
awesome control by applying the ideal
amount of braking force at critical intervals
of up to 1/1000 of a second. The
application of "smart" braking by the Digital
Control Braking System quickly stabilizes
the spool rotation. This system varies the
amount of braking force applied,
minimizing the dreaded backlash. As a
result, it is possible to achieve long,
accurate casts with consistent backlash
control.
Super Stopper

Super Stopper uses a one-way, stainless
steel roller bearing that eliminates
backplay. This provides the angler with
instant hooksetting power.

Escape Hatch

By flipping a switch, the sideplate swivels downward,
giving the angler quick access to adjust the VBS
weights. The switch is located in a position that is easy
to use, yet remains out of the way to prevent accidental
opening. The sideplate is smooth for comfort when
palming the reel.

X- SHIP


•X SHIP gear system utilizes an extra big drive gear
together with new support points for the Pinion gear.
This new system resulted in 60% reduction in rotating
resistance which translates to light and strong cranking
power
Micro Module Gear
The Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth
retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth
and more of them. This means that there are more
contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear.
The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear
''feel''.
